Rui Pedro Marques obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2014 from the Universities of Minho, Aveiro, and Porto, Portugal. His academic credentials also include a Master's degree completed in 2008 and a Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Aveiro in 2005.

Since 2007, Marques has been a Professor at the Higher Institute of Accounting and Administration, University of Aveiro, where he teaches Information Systems courses across technical professional, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs. He also supervises master's dissertations and Ph.D. theses. Marques holds a board position at the Institute of Accounting and Administration, University of Aveiro, and is the course director of the Professional Higher Technical Course in Organizational Informatics and Communication.

He is a Full Researcher at GOVCOPP - The Research Unit on Governance, Competitiveness and Public Policies, within the Research Group on Competitiveness, Innovation, and Sustainability (CIS). He is engaged in funded research projects and his publication record includes editing books, contributing to indexed international journals, book chapters, and presenting at international conferences. Marques is also editor-in-chief at the International Journal of Business Innovation. His research is mainly focused on Information Systems for Business with recent projects involving Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, and Business Intelligence applications in business.
