Implications of Job Satisfaction on the Turnover of Workers in Information, Communication and Electronic Technologies Sector

Worker retention is one of the challenges faced by firms in any industry. Since the performance of any business unit depends on its employees, the ability to retain qualified labour contributes significantly to the success of the business. This study explores how job satisfaction influences workers' turnover and retention in firms operating in the Information, Communication and Electronic Technologies (ICET) sector. This research is relevant because mobility and the difficulty in retaining employees in the ICET sector is a reality. A descriptive approach was adopted, and data were collected from firms in a technological cluster in Aveiro, Portugal, using a structured survey, sent by email. A total of 100 respondents were included in this study. The results reveal that workers seem to be not very satisfied with the financial rewards, which may have an impact on employee retention and turnover. Moreover, women are generally more satisfied compared to men, in their current jobs.
