Márcio Ribeiro Martins (Murça, 1979) has a degree in Geography (FLUP, 2002), and finished in 2005, in the same faculty, the Master in Natural Hazards Management with the dissertation “Soil erosion processes in the Região Demarcada do Douro”. Since 2002 he teaches Geography at different secondary schools around the country and in 2011 and 2017 until August 2020, was invited assistant at School of Education (ESE) of Polytechnic Institute of Bragança. In 2020 finish a PhD in Tourism at the University of Aveiro with the thesis "O fenómeno backpacker e os seus padrões de movimento espaciotemporal no destino urbano Porto" and start working as Adjunt Professor at Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (Escola Superior de Administração, Comunicação e Turismo). At moment, Backpacker tourism and tourist space-time behavior are the main research topics. He is also a researcher in the Centre for Tourism Research, Development and Innovation (CITUR) and a collaborator at the research unit on Governance, Competitiveness and Public Policy (GOVCOPP), working in the group on Tourism and Development.
