On June 25, 2026 a seminar will be held at the GOVCOPP Research Hub on the topic: Territorial Inequalities in Rural Areas: Community-Driven Public Policy Solutions. This seminar is jointly organized by GOVCOPP and Animar.
The program brings together guests from academia, civil society, and territorial development organizations, experts, and professionals, fostering a multidisciplinary debate on territorial cohesion, rural development, agriculture, forestry, access to public services, and social innovation.
About the seminar:
Territorial inequalities are today one of the central challenges facing public policies in Portugal and the European Union. In recent decades, processes of economic, demographic, and institutional concentration have deepened disparities between territories, particularly between urban and rural areas, undermining territorial cohesion, equitable access to services and opportunities, and the well-being of populations.
Rural areas face particularly complex challenges: depopulation, aging, economic fragility, unequal access to public services, and limitations in the institutional and financial capacity of these territories.
