This paper intends to analyses leadership skills needed to increase employee engagement. The purpose is to explore the role of multi-level forms of leadership necessary for promoting effective work engagement. This is a quantitative study based on an online survey applied in Iberian Peninsula to a sample of 1155 individuals. Respondents were either employed within a variety of industries, ranging from information technology to finance or were unemployed and searched for future work opportunities. The following research questions have guided the present study: What are the Leadership Skills which can promote employee engagement? In order to answer the research question, the research methodology used was quantitative. The main technique to collect data was a questionnaire allowing to investigate the main issues related to leadership skills which can promote the employee's engagement. The findings of the research are that leaders with skills of: facilitation of learning and knowledge development; coaching skills; being a change agent; and communication skills, are the most successful in engaging their employees. Those skills were considered more important than pay and benefit levels in keeping a workforce engaged. The results of the research are the identification of the leadership skills for improving employee engagement which can be considered the dimensions of as a model of leadership skills development that can be implemented by organizations to enhance their leader's skills. As the main limitations of the research is that additional work is required to operationalize constructs further, and future in-depth empirical analysis. This research is significant for managers and leaders when developing organizational interactions from a multi-level efficacy perspective. The conceptual contribution of the paper is a fresh macro-analytical perspective concerning of leadership skills which can potentially increase employee engagement.
