Pedro J. Camões, with a PhD in Political Science at the University of South Carolina, is an Assistant Professor at the Universidade de Aveiro, is a member of the research unit on Governance, Competitiveness, and Public Policies (GOVCOPP), and Director of the PhD program in Political Science.
He does research and teaches in the areas of Decentralization, and Local Government, and Public Policy, with publications such as Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, Governance, Public Management Review, Local Government Studies, Ecological Economics, Government Information Quarterly, Land Use Policy, Environmental Development and the International Journal of Public Administration. He is the co-coordinator of the project “C2P2 – Continuity and Change in Portuguese Policymaking: The Political Control of the Bureaucracy (1975-2020)” (Fundação Francisco Manuel dos Santos). Previously, he was the researcher of the of the publicly funded (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia) projects “TrivPlat-Monitoring, Managemnt and Evaluation tool for electronic public procurement” and “The Efficiency in the Use of Public Resources and the Quality of Portuguese Municipal Decision-Making”.
As a consultant, he has years of experience of working with national and international government organizations such as OECD, World Bank, Mozambique Government, Portuguese Municipalities, Direção-Geral das Autarquias Locais, Ministério da Economia. Previously, he was Administrator and member of the Management Board of the Universidade do Minho (2019-2014) and Vice-President of the School of Economics and Management (2015-2017).
