Marlene Amorim is Associate Professor at the Department of Economics, Management, Industrial Engineering and Tourism at the University of Aveiro and an integrated researcher at the Research Unit on Governance, Competitiveness and Public Policies (GOVCOPP).
She holds a PhD in Management from IESE Business School, Barcelona (Spain), a Master’s degree in Management of Science, Technology and Innovation from the University of Aveiro (Portugal), and a degree in Economics from the University of Porto (Portugal). She started her professional career in industry, working in internationalisation strategy and marketing for agrifood companies based in Portugal, the Netherlands and Belgium. She later embraced management challenges within higher education, joining the University of Aveiro as Advisor for Internationalisation in 2000.
From 2014 to 2018, she served as Vice-Rector for Internationalisation at the University of Aveiro. She also held leadership roles as Director and Vice-Director of the Master’s Programme in Economics, Management and Industrial Engineering and as a member of the Scientific Committee of the Doctoral Programme in Industrial Engineering and Management. In addition, she coordinated the Research Line on Competitiveness, Innovation and Sustainability at GOVCOPP - from 2028 to 2024.
Her teaching and research activities focus on innovation, service management and service quality, sustainability, digital transformation, Industry 4.0, and collaborative and innovation ecosystems. With a consolidated scientific profile and extensive experience in multidisciplinary and international research, she has coordinated and participated in national and European projects funded through programmes such as Erasmus+, FCT, URBACT, Urban Innovative Actions (UIA), FEDER and PRR, developed in collaboration with universities, research centres, companies, public authorities and regional stakeholders.
Her research privileges collaborative and impact-oriented approaches, promoting the co-creation of knowledge and the development of solutions in close articulation with academic and industry partners.
